Managers of Reddit, what’s the fastest you’ve had a new hire quit?

A couple weeks ago, I went on vacation and returned to a new hire for my department. She seemed like a sweet person, grown kids, in her early 50s and used to be a florist. We chatted a bit while I showed her the ropes of brewing coffee and serving customers in a very slow coffee kiosk.

Keep in mind that all of this happens in two shifts.

Red Flag #1: When a customer approached, she just stared past their ears while they tried to figure out why I had hired a blind person. I gently reminded her that we acknowledge people and ask what they would like.

Red Flag #2: On several occasions she brewed hot water and swore to me it was coffee, despite me showing her that it was water.

Red Flag #3: When she got a customer’s order wrong, she just told them that they were wrong instead. Many times. I seriously witnessed an argument between her and a customer over how many coffees the customer wished to purchase.

Red Flag #4: I showed her the schedule several times, and even wrote down one that I hadn’t finalized yet, so that she had her schedule 3 weeks in advance instead of our standard 2 weeks. She later called my supervisor crying, saying that I hadn’t given her a schedule so she didn’t know if she could attend her doctors appointments.

She’s called out 3 times in a row so far, claiming to be under the weather and written out for two entire weeks (but no evidence of this yet). I feel like I can safely say she’s quit.
