Manchin Puts Nation's Needs Before His Party's Obsessions

I used to think that too, but then I moved from CA to TX. Both have had effectively one party rule for the past couple decades. Yet everyone is leaving CA, and everyone is moving to TX. The former is dying while the latter is thriving.

It's really made me think. Perhaps one party rule can work if it's the right party (read: not Marxist). Taiwan and Singapore are also interesting examples that have been floating through my head.

I would prefer a two party system that fosters competition. But true competition is predicated on good will. When one of the parties breaks that agreement, maybe a one party system can become preferable to a corrupted two party system (ideally temporarily). It's a scary thought, but my lived experience seems to corroborate this.
