The manipulation of our markets, the uselessness of the SEC, and why you can’t win.

You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about hf's. Don't really understand why.

Because I don't. You're thinking of Buffett. I burn no calories on hedge funds. We pulled in over 500 grand last year, which is peanuts in terms of hedge fund compensation, but not bad for a kid from a trailer park. If I thought I could find a hedge fund that could outperform me I would invest with one. People aren't shy about taking your money.

They work very hard for the clients who are always free to invest with other managers or directly.

You would have to examine that on a case by case basis. The average hedge fund lasts about 5 years, and one in three fails on an annual basis. They do always take their 2 or 3% though. I never hear about a hedge fund making their clients whole when they lose a ton of money.

You never seem to say anything bad about hedge funds, which I find disingenuous. The new york law firm that surveyed hedge fund employees found that 30% had directly witnessed wrong doing, and we both know wrongdoing is rampant in the industry, including insider trading.

You do seem to have a problem with retail investors. Why a person who I can only imagine is highly educated and well compensated would frequent a retail investing forum and mock the less educated is beyond me. I feel that is cowardly. You don't see Jon "Bones" Jones going down to the local McDojo and just beating the shit out of people.

I stand corrected.

Obviously my perspective is a little different. I went from the Marine Corps to the GI Bill to study finance and accounting. I went from an organization where people would literally jump on a grenade for me to a business world where people would steal everything from someone else and not think twice about it. Definitely not the least bit impressed if someone works at a hedge fund or has money or status. That is not the true measure of a man. On average, I have found that the real men were the people I served with, not the people I find at hedge funds or in the investment world. Your mileage may vary.
