If it were to happen, it would have happened by now.

Greed and empathy can destroy human civilization but only if all the powerful, greedy and empathyless people team up.

For example, Hitler was an empathyless psychopath, he killed millions, mostly jews. He wanted to wipe out all jees from europe. But then he decided to wipe out the Bolsheviks, led by another psychopath, Joseph Stalin. Stalin defeated him and his plan to wipe out jews failed. Then stalin wanted to spread his country's influence but Soviets were countered by another group of psychpaths who wanted to spread their country's influence. The government of USA.

I feel that as long as there are enough psychopaths who would do anything for their goals, their paths will cross and one would perish and so will his intentions. And it will lead to deaths but never to a total extinction.
