Manslaughter sounds way worse than murder.

Allow me to challenge that. In the manslaughter case I am dealing with at the moment. The victim of manslaughter was the attacker's brother. The attacker was a violent alcoholic with previous convictions for assault and racially aggravated aggression (sometimes towards police officers, sometimes just ordinary people trying to enjoy their holiday, or even sometimes, his brother's wife). On the day of the attack, the attacker was once more being abusive towards his wife. His wife called the victim for help. The victim went round to calm his brother down. Upon arrival, the attacker was abusing his wife. The attacker punched the victim, causing damage to the victim's skull, and knocking him backwards, where the victim hit his head on the ground causing massive brain damage. The attacker then prevented people from calling 999 for an ambulance. Shortly after, the attackers able to call 999, in the call recording you can hear the victim's wife screaming. The victim spent the next few days in an intensive care unit before the family had to make the decision to switch the machine off. The attacker was sentenced to a jail term, as it was classed as manslaughter. It was clear the victim had intended to attack, if he had had a weapon it would have been murder. In court, the attacker claimed that the blame lay with his dog, who had annoyed him the night before. The attacker was released after half his sentence. Promptly after his release, he began suing the late victim's family for their inheritance. He is trying to take the family business off them, and also force them out of their family home.

Tell me again, how manslaughter is better than murder and not evil?
