So many racists on a front page post

Indian. What they said is right. But they do not take into account how India got there.

After being the El Dorado of western civilization during the age of exploration, the Europeans, especially the British forced a whole (and the most prosperous of that time) country into slavery for 200 years.

They (English East India Co.) taxed the "natives" so high that the returns supposed to be paid by farmers could have been met using only one way: Reproduce like rabbits and get those family hands on farm work. Not to mention the abuse borne by Indians from the Muslim invaders and rulers since 12th century AD.

Net result, a primarily agrarian county that is highly vulnerable to crop failures and at the mercy of rain gods ends up with a population burst. When the British finally left the country after having ravaged the sub continent and sucked it bone dry in 1947.

Ever since it's been a fight for survival in India. On the roads, for jobs, for homes, for education and literally anything that has value. Majority of the population still struggle to put 3 meals a day on their plate.

People are tired in this country. Our basic focus has been survival for a long time. For all the crazy things you see in this country, people just don't have time to be civic.

But things are changing now and so are people. Agreed, our past/present governments could have done/do much better to mitigate these painful aftershocks of the colonial horror. And people can be better.

But hey, for a country that has seen 3 million people die due to starvation because a psycho called Winston Churchill wanted Indian rations for the British troops during WW2, we're doing pretty good.

This is not hate. And neither an excuse to justify our behavior. Just felt that everybody needs to know the background of this sorry state that my country is in.

Sorry for the long post.
