A map of depression.

Well. My great great grandfather was a soldier in ww1 on the italian front. He received a karl troop cross, and the bronze bravery medal, and the 2 silver bravery medals. One is smaller the other is a bit bigger. I also have his pipe he smoked on the front, but I broke it a few years back when I was drunk. Im planning on restoring it with someone who specialises in this. He had a few sons. My great grandfathers brothers were in the hungarian gendarmerie "csendőrség". I dont know if they participated in the second world war or not. I know, after the war they joined the communist secret police, called ÁVÓ. It was neccessary to avoid prison or worse. They quit a few years after. My great grandfather though, was a 2 times european champion, and olympic champion wrestler. He was third place in the los angeles olympic games. He should have won, but his arm got injured in the first round. He traded his gold medals for animals. Horses cattles etc to provide for the family. During the war, he worked together with the red cross and helped people hide and got them to safehouses owned by the red cross. This was my grandfathers ancestors. My other great grandfather, so my grandmothers dad, was a soldier in the hungarian royal air force. I also had an ancestor, back in the 17th century, who was a hungarian border fortress captain during the ottoman occupation. He was the captain of the fortress in Eperjes (pReSoV) , and defended it against the germans who were coming to occupy Hungary as the turks were getting kicked out. Though he had to give the fortress up, because some general ordered him to for strategical reasons. Later he also fought the turks and helped reconquer Nagyvárad (oRaDeA) from them. Died during those battles. I have common ancestors with Károly Kratochvil, but I dont exactly remember how the family is related. I would have to ask my grandfather.

On my fathers side, there arent many interesting stuff. My grandfather who avoided the war, by escaping the barracks that I mentioned, lived in Northern Hungary. After the second world war, they were kicked out of their homes by the invading army, and put on cattle trains and sent over to the crippled motherland with nothing. This happend to thousands and tens of thousands of families.

These are the stories that come to my mind that are interesting.
