Maple Ridge city councillor Ahmed Yousef says people who support the NDP are no longer welcome in Maple Ridge (skip to 5:20) to hear it.

They produce their own, local-grown homeless population, and it's not fair to other municipalities that they have to care for Maple Ridge's homeless problem

The current volatile situation in Maple Ridge does not exist because Maple Ridge is producing too many homeless people for the community to care for. It is entirely due to the influx of homeless people arriving from surrounding municipalities.

Maple Ridge does not have a local problem that is self-created. Homeless people come from a lot of different places because currently being homeless in Maple Ridge is better than being homeless wherever they were from. If you don't believe me, come to Maple Ridge and ask them. They will tell you.

Maple Ridge is already a destination for homeless people. Forcing Maple Ridge to create a shelter (that has already been democratically veto'd by Maple Ridge, denied by City Council, and is opposed by an overwhelming majority of Maple Ridge residents) is not only an anti-democratic action but also an action that is almost certain to increase the number of homeless individuals who will then be roaming the streets without help - unless, of course, Maple Ridge is then forced to build a second bigger facility....

It is not fair that Maple Ridge is being forced to continue to care for, financially support, and be literally victimized by other municipalities' homeless people.
