The March for Science isn't partisan or anti-Trump—it's pro-facts

You would be surprised what people will do when they are insecure and under perceived threat. Sure, there are some racist, sexist, xenophobic dicks out there....but let's be real here. There are many good-hearted people who voted for Trump because their way of life is no longer the path to prosperity they were raised to believe. Their core assumptions about the way the world works (hard work equals earned opportunity, which is the road to prosperity) were violated because the world changed from under them, and they are hurting, angry, and fearful. This does not mean they are not good people. It means they are irrational. And that is not a good reason to hate someone. Pity, frustration, sure...but they don't deserve your hate.

Trump and his entourage understood this perfectly and took advantage of this very real pain and despair and used it for their own ends. That kind of deliberate, calculated, and - most importantly - rational selfishness and callous disregard for the welfare of others for self-serving ends....that is an entirely different beast altogether.
