Marcos Rojo filmed smoking on international duty

Marcos Rojo’s night out with Gonazalo Higuaín is still causing a fuss in Argentina. We’ve already covered the claims that both the players were present in a party during their time with the national team, which seemed to be just a natural way for them to enjoy a night off.

Now, the Argentine press have been discussing a video in which they say Rojo is smoking and flirting with different girls.

The video was filmed in the neighbourhood of Palermo, well known in Argentina for having the best parties of Buenos Aires. Rojo is seen talking with several men and women, as he appears to be smoking a cigarette, hugs one of the girls and bites the dress of another one.

Yesterday, a girl claimed to have kissed Rojo. But as it seemed more like a tabloid subject than a sport story itself, we preferred to ignore it. Rojo’s family are frequently involved in the local news as well, and we try and steer clear of much of it, leaving his personal life private.

But the reports in Argentina are growing and, of course smoking is not a good habit for a footballer, as the backlash over Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczęsny has shown previously. The video is a big hit in Argentina and already has more than 350k views on Youtube.

It's been very widely discussed in Argentina, with the media there seemingly more interested in the fact the players were with members of the opposite sex. After the repercussions, Rojo responded to the comments by posting a photo with his daughter on Instagram.

He ends a usual message to his family by saying: “...for those with no life, a big hug and see if you stop making things up that are not and try to be happy."

Perhaps Marcos Rojo was just smoking to honour Johan Cruyff’s death, and maybe biting the girl's neck to provoke his Uruguayan rival Luis Suarez. Footballers having the odd cigarette isn't unheard of, but it's best not to be filmed doing it.
