Maria Bailey facing revolt from local Fine Gael members in wake of swing-fall case - Maria Bailey is facing a revolt from within her own constituency, with calls from local members for her to be dropped from the Fine Gael election ticket.

I think what this whole episode has shown is just how self-serving and duplicitous FG are. This is not some exceptional case which goes against everything FG stand for, she is the embodiment of FG's selfish, entitled culture where its one rule for them and another for everyone else. There was never any problem with her attempting to swindle an insurance company, she was clearly encouraged, advised and assisted by at least one TD that we know of (Josepha), so that gives you some indication as to the level of entitlement within the party. The problem was that she was caught, and the ensuing backlash which caught them all by surprise as if they'd all been living in a different country for the past 10 years. And she's still so warped that she believes she's the victim here, I'm pretty sure the majority of her colleagues sympathise with her because lets be honest, they don't represent us. I genuinely don't think the FG lads really understand just how much this resonated with everyone, the damage will be lasting (even in these times when scandals don't seem to have much traction) and until they actually ostracise her then she's going to continue to drag the party down with her. I don't know anybody who hasn't enjoyed this saga so much, it's our generation's Padraig Flynn moment only its much worse.

Keep it up Maria!
