I was trying to be helpful, I am confused, I have no idea as to the timeline of events, the history of your mothers problems, your early life or what actually happened to your mother. You have not actually told us what happened step by step, your comments just allude to unspecific events and are often not in order of time. I just wanted to be helpful, and as you yourself say that you find it hard to get the tenses right I felt that if you could get someone else to set it all out then it would help you see a clearer picture, keeping that distance might help to give you more perspective to work with.
