In 10 years, it's entirely possible that you get a joint at the ball game. Snuff boxes used to be part of every day carry, and then cigarettes were. Things change and social constructs are not constant.

The US tried extracting alcohol from society, and it failed miserably. They did the same with cannabis and opiates, and it also failed miserably. Without historical context it's hard to get a clear picture of the situation.
