? I'll never understand how people find the ending/meaning just slapped on. Just because they don't give any exposition to the viewer from the get-go about the secret society trying to find out what happens in the afterlife, doesn't mean that's not what the movies about. I usually agree that people tend to try to find a meaning that isn't there with torture porn, but in this case the torture is literally a key element and is "justified" (feels weird saying that) in terms of the plot. People historically have done VILE stuff/experiments to humans in the name of "science".

There are points to criticize with the movie, but as someone who usually hates overly disturbing movies, this one felt like an outlier and not too gratuitous.
