OK, three things:
Firstly, this is just wrong.
So, like a soldier, killing people may be part of his job but it isn't the primary focus and he often avoids it if he can otherwise accomplish his goals.
I'm sorry if it runs counter to your notions of reality, but the military occupation exists primarily to kill people, break things, better enable other to accomplish the first two goals, and disrupt / dissuade another armed force from attempting the same.
Secondly, your criticism
Using as much firepower as possible and proactively looking for a fight is generally how any offensively minded military operates, all other things being equal.
