I’m against any sort of registration system, but you don’t need one to have prevented this. If the shooter was once forced into mental health detention, that should have been a form of involuntary commitment, which would have shown up on a normal background check. Same for when they confiscated his firearms in the past. A really simple fix to our current system would have prevented this, and it truly was the failure of the FBI. Anyone telling you we need registration to have prevented this has ulterior motives or was fooled by someone else who does.

And the inner skeptic in me wonders if the FBI even wants these shootings to stop in the first place.
