Math teachers who mark off points for using a different method, why do you hate innovation and students thinking of new and easier strategies?

I had lots of discussions with my HS physics teacher because of my method. The guy was the old-school kind of teacher (he was actually well past retirement age), solving problems in a million tiny steps, working with the numbers since step 1 and adding the units at the end. I straight up decomposed the units into basic units, solved the equation without touching a single number, and then substituted the values at the end.
I get how his method might be easier to understand for some people, but for me it was more intuitive that way. And no matter how many times I told him that he could see my reasoning right there in the equation, he insisted that he couldn't correct me if I "only wrote the results".
