In any actual high level math class like linear algebra or diff eq, you will be marked wrong if you give a decimal answer like this.

The correct answer is that x is approximately 1.

No matter how many digits of .999999999999 you go out, it will never actually be one.

Sure, it’s insanely close and it’s true for any realistic application, but it’s still wrong.

It’s like saying pi = 3.14159...

Nope. You can go 1000 digits out, and it will still be wrong.

Most people in this thread have only taken algebra as their highest level of math.

If you told this to a University Math Professor, they would mark you wrong.
