Max on sharing his car's set ups

Setting up a car is setting up a car, all the basic parameters like heave springs, anti roll bars, toe, camber, etc are present in basically all kinds of race cars including F1. Of course he’s not taking setups from iracing and bringing them to Red Bull engineers but it’s not unreasonable to think you can glean things about a driver from a consumer sim with how sophisticated they’ve become. A driver who prefers understeer in a sim car doesn’t start wanting oversteer irl, driver preferences tend to be very consistent across types of cars and sim vs irl. The skill of setup is also less about how the car feels than fans tend to think and more about getting the tires working to peak potential, which doesn’t have any inherent relationship to particularly difficult handling. Nobody wants a car to be hard to drive just because, only if it’s bringing performance.
