Maybe not fatlogic. I know this sub "hates" Ragen and other BodyPos bloggers, but how do you feel about the sites dedicated specifically to her?

I think the attention we pay BodyPos people can be justified, but it's still not attention we should be giving the BodyPos movement. I don't know if I'm in the majority about this, though. I just literally could not care less about Ragen or Tess or MadGarbleWarbleWibbleWobble or whoever. If a bunch of fat people can only be happy when they're putting down skinny people or misreading science to promote their "healthy" lifestyles, then I'm like, good luck never getting heard because people don't listen to bitter bullies. (People do love bad science, though.) But if we absolutely HAVE to deal with them, I think there are solutions that could be put into motion without showering these people with attention:

  • Fat People Stories. Literally already exists, but I guess make a TiTP style tumblr page that parodies TiTP. The one on reddit is basically exactly what would just have to be on the tumblr page. Or, you could make T.I.'s TP, and respond to all TiTP stories with a T.I. lyric from the album T.I. vs T.I.P. Although I don't know if he has a stance on fat people. Maybe 50? Although... the name of the blog won't be nearly as silly.

  • Maybe a blog that helps people understand what's written in scientific articles, like a layman's guide to medical articles? It could probably just take TiTP's master list of things that don't support them and convert them to layman's terms. This would take a while, but on the other hand with enough contributors it would be a huge source of information.

  • Just leave it alone because there are way too many people who don't agree with them about the fat = beautiful stance. Even News outlets will smile in the face of someone who's overweight and call them brave and beautiful, but will throw accolades on accolades on people who lose weight and people who are slim in general in the next breath.

The problems I see with these things are:

  • The scientific article blog probably already exists and just doesn't get enough attention/upkeep (same with the TiTP mock page), plus it would be hard to do, especially for people who aren't well versed in medicine, probably. It's time consuming and definitely not as interesting as a blog about Ragen, which we do have.

  • Hatred leaking through, but to an extent that ruins the nature of the things we're trying to achieve. A little hatred probably is OK because we're bound to have fat haters lurking around. Too much and suddenly we look like douchebags to the rest of the world.

  • People will probably still touch the poop, despite knowing that FAs need someone to fight against to survive. They need attention, any attention, all attention. I mean, Tess tried to fight American Eagle, didn't she? Because models didn't look like her? And the recent stuff with Protein World. No one I know knew that Tess fought whatever retailer she fought, because no one cares. And I only know about Protein World because I hang out here. Most everyone else I know doesn't know about it. But maybe I'm just too far away from the action?

  • They reach mainstream society somehow and instead of people telling them flat out "You're being silly, obesity is unhealthy and healthy is a transient state: being healthy at one point doesn't mean you're healthy for ever," people are going to call them "brave, true women" and what not.

But what I don't think is helpful is placing focus on the people themselves. Because they want to be the leading whatever of the FA movement. They brag about it. The focus validates them. Why give that to them?
