Mayoral candidate tells audience members 'Go back to Africa' - Story

What's even more insulting about the whole thing is that - unlike almost everyone else who can trace their lineage back across the pond - most black Americans can't and have no idea what area of Africa they are "from" or if they are even "from" Africa. The Moors were black and they took over Italy. There's actually been a long history of black europeans, many of whom were the ones to end up on slave ships.

Not to mention there's just plenty of black people who aren't African at all. I have a black cousin who is Brazilian. People think it's polite to call her African American, but she's no more African than me.

So to tell these people to go "back to Africa" when they don't even know what country in Africa they are from or whether or they are even from Africa, it's a reminder to them that not only do they not know their own origins because of what American slavery did to them, but they don't even know their original last names. They can't go on ancestry.com and look that shit up with the last name of whatever the last slave owner to own their great great great grandmother was.

It's really quite sad and attitude like this guys incite rightful indignation. I can't imagine the patience and forgiveness you would need to just walk around dealing with that level of cruelty and ignorance on a regular basis.
