[MD] Can my employer force me to disclose why I can't work new hours?

I am actually looking for a new job. I think that disclosing this will make my employer like me less and schedule me less. I can't work the new hours because I need to attend interviews before places close. My employer says that they need to "put it in my record" so that they can tell the state whether I'm refusing to work for personal reasons or other job reasons, and then they yelled something about what if they get audited, but I was kinda intimidated by all the screaming so I don't remember it so well and it just doesn't make sense, anyways.

Anyways, I don't know if "job hunting" counts as personal or as another job, and this job won't give consistent hours, anyways. I'm concerned that if it's recorded as a "personal reason" it's going to screw up my ability to get food stamps because I'm paid just over minimum wage and I have student loan payments that take up most of what I have, but this is a really toxic work environment (employer calls in entire department to a meeting that consists of screaming, 'THIS IS MY BUSINESS! I OWN THIS BUSINESS!" to the point where I think my employer is about to angry-cry in front of all us, and regularly tells multiple departments that we'll go out of business/threatening everyone's jobs)
