Me Before You - false advertising

I’m not against medically assisted suicide in cases of terminal illness or even cases of extreme chronic pain, which would involve “…explor[ing] other options to their satisfaction and to the satisfaction of the doctor(s)”. The OP of this post isn’t against medically assisted suicide. That’s not what this post is about.

This post is about romanticizing the idea of suicide as a solution to sudden disability and portraying disability as literally a fate worse than death.

I suffer from major depression among other mental health conditions. These are disabilities. I’ve been suicidal and crawled out the other side. Because my conditions are chronic and don’t really respond to medication that isn’t addictive, I’ll probably have to do it again— and more than once— in my lifetime.

When I’m stuck in it and every nerve hurts just trying to stay alive and make it through the day, knowing that I’m just going to have to do it all over again at some point, shall I call you so you can tell me about my bodily autonomy?
