Me and my husband are wanting to try for a baby in the next couple of years, I have a couple questions about fertility and things I should start doing.

CW: mention of ED and previous MC

I’ve been underweight my whole life (literally since birth...was in the NICU for 2 weeks because I was just tiny) and then developed a long term ED at a young age. I got pregnant WHILE my Skyla was still inserted (when my ED was in full force and I restricted myself to a max 1000 calories/day). I miscarried shortly after my OB removed the IUD. Now I’ve been at a healthy weight for over two years (yay!) and haven’t used any birth control since 12/2017, but hubby and I still aren’t pregnant.

I’m just posting this to point out that there are SO MANY factors that affect your fertility every single month. On paper, my first pregnancy seems much less likely compared to how healthy I am today.

My advice would be to just focus on your health and do the hard work to improve your personal happiness/confidence. ESPECIALLY if you aren’t going to TTC immediately, I’d say that your mental state is more important right now. Of course your physical health matters, but I think a lot of us underestimate how strongly our mentality affects our body. Continue to maintain a healthy weight (of course), but now is the time to get right with yourself. People like us with anxiety/depression/EDs need to be 100% sure we’re in a good place mentally before we have a baby.
