[MEA spoilers] In a game about discovery and exploration, players have no reason to explore, and nothing to discover.

I feel the need to chime in from a writer's perspective since I have written some Mass Effect inspired OC. I'll leave any details out to avoid 'advertising'. I actually wrote a race like the Angara in my game (before MEA was even really unveiled) in that they can share memories and the character in the game has memories from generations ago. I assume that I came to the same conclusion that Bioware did, it's an insanely broken ability and you have to hamper it or else it just becomes a super massive plot hole. In my game the memories degrade over time, become less and less detailed with time and each copy until they are gone or all but useless. With the Angara they limited it in game by saying it's a rare ability and required artifacts and such of that person, and even then Jaal wasn't sure it would work IIRC. Frankly I like my version better (because then you don't run the risk of somebody knowing something from ancient ancient history) but I think Bioware did phone it in a little bit with some of the logic (then again all writers do from time to time, or else we'd all go mad)
