I mean, it's solid advice, but... Seriously?

Thank you for understanding.
And at even at the peril of boring you, I'd like to give you just a little bit of perspective.
Addiction is a very complex and broad concept, very often completely misunderstood.
Who is an addict?
Are you addicted to carbs because you can certainly live without them.
Is a single mom with two kids and a full time job addicted to valium because it helps her keep calm when she otherwise couldn't?
Are people on antidepressants addicted to them?
How about people with chronic pain, ADHD, hypochondriacs, and so on.
It takes years of dealing with drugs and addicts just to begin to understand the huge variety of walks of life that end up doing drugs and the many, many different reasons that drive them to that point.

Now, I assume you haven't had much experience with drugs or druggies, but harm reduction is actually the only thing that keeps a fully functional member of society from becoming a street junkie and if you'd like browse sites like dancesafe.org for more great information on the topic.

I'm a perfect example how one can use and abuse a whole lot of drugs while still being an exemplary productive member of society.
Harm reduction is just like wearing protective gear when I'm racing my dirt bike 100 mph through a desert full of boulders and cliffs and cactus and canyons and 200 other maniacs racing next to me.
Or like the rope I clip to my climbing harness when I'm hanging off a 300' cliff by the tips of my fingers, or the secondary parachute when I'm falling 120 mph head-first hoping that the minimum-wage worker that packed my parachutes didn't fuck up both of them, or trusting about 20 mechanical parts that could fail at any time when I'm decelerating from 180 to 40 mph to make a turn before a solid concrete wall.

And you know what the most mind-boggling irony of this whole thing is?
People oogle and awe when they see my dirt bikes and race bikes and race cars and rock climbing and skydiving gear.
They lift their children up so they can see all the trophies in my cabinets and tell them how they can only hope their kids will be as and hardworking and dedicated and persevere in face of injuries and crashes in order to become the best they can be as I appear to be.
Those same people would faint if they saw me on one of my multi-colored drug-binges that would even make H. S. Thompson proud and a little worried.
But the weird fact of the matter is that my adrenaline addiction has cost me waaaay more money and hospital visits than drugs....
However, I'm getting waaay too deep into this whole thing, it's time to smoke a blunt and hit the gym to see if I can beat my own record and squat 400lbs 15 times :-)
