Mechanic said all four wheel covers flying off at once was normal and "happens all the time." Wut.

I'm hoping I can. I know all they have to say is they gave me back the tires I came in with and nothing more will happen because I can't exactly pick through their shop for my tires. It's not like my name is written on them or anything.

And I don't think the other guys mixed up my wheels because I didn't go home with different rims - I went home with no rims. They were dragging their asses changing my tires and I kind of bolted once they were done because I had to be somewhere and didn't notice the rims were missing, but then later on, I looked at my car and realized they were gone. Had to wait to call them because it was the weekend and when I did finally get a hold of them, they just said they didn't have my rims and that was the end of it. There was nothing I could really do.

I think it's pretty possible that someone could have been startled by, say, their windshield getting struck by a flying hubcap and swerving into oncoming traffic or braking hard enough to get rear-ended. Maybe they wouldn't have caused any actual damage because they're cheap plastic, but I think they could have caused some trouble if they had hit someone. The mechanic also tried to tell me that it wasn't their fault the wheel covers turned into frisbees and that it was because they were worn out from use (they were less than a year old). I... don't think that's how wheel covers work. Even if that was the case, why would they just stick them back on my car and not tell me they were too damaged to be put back on?

Seems like these guys are trying to weasel their way out of being scapegoats, but no matter how I slice it, at least part of it is definitely their fault. I just have no way to prove it, which is the problem.
