Medical protocol for horse bites that break the skin? New a*hole gelding bit my face

Top

Hiya, I just spoke with the livery yard manager (this means barn manager if you are American) and felt that this comment warranted a response. It turns out this horse came to our yard after being asked to leave its previous facility for seriously biting the 5th person there. The owner told us none of this until today. I had no warning about existing behavioral issues, and only knew the horse was suspected of having EPM and being spooky.

I do not know what happened with the other instances, but I do know that I was following protocol and treated him with kindness the same way I treat all other horses. I do not raise my voice angrily at horses, have never struck a horse, etc. When this happened, I did neither of those things afterward and simply crawled out of the field as quickly as possible. Thankfully, I was turning away from the horse as he bit me hence why he got the side of my cheek. I did not even see it coming. Had I been facing him square on, he would have surely broken my nose.

You assume things without knowing. The downvotes on your comment speak for themselves. I have removed this post and will be removing my comments soon.
