Meet the “modern-day president”: Donald Trump may have degraded the dignity of the office beyond repair

It amazes me how many people truly believe that a decades-long career of successfully taking billions of dollars of other people's money and parlaying that success into a stint as the most powerful person in the world is evidence of Trump being an idiot.

That isn't evidence of Trump being an idiot. It isn't evidence of Trump being particularly intelligent either. What is evidence of Trump being an idiot is his lack of intellectual curiosity, his inability to grasp even basic concepts, and his refusal to accept and process new information.

but stroking your ego about how much smarter you are than he is?

I can't speak for others, but the leader of this country should possess at least an average level of functional intelligence. They should be able to communicate well as that is their primary job. They also need to be intelligent enough to be able to process the enormous amount of information that they are bombarded with and make basic decisions. Trump is clearly not capable of either of those things. I mean, he can't even stay on message for 24 hours.

I don't need them to be as smart as me...just smart enough to do the job. I didn't agree on a lot of things with GW, for example, but he was smart enough to be in the position.

That's the foolishness that helped him get into the White House last year, and continuing it will safely place him there in 2020 as well.

There were a lot of things that got Trump into office...bad candidate on the Dem side, bad Dem campaign strategy, a little bit of misogyny, some Russian interference, some surprisingly deft strategy by Trump's people, the email server thing (this really falls under the first two items), racism, classism, etc. Pointing out that Trump is barely able to breathe without the use of an audio aid is hardly one of the top reasons that he was elected.
