Mega Thread All Target Prepaid Redcard aka Redbird.

The question: Which card is better with MS?

I want to make sure what I'm MSing with gives me the most benefits. I'm looking into hotel cards right now because thats the only thing I'm missing. Narrowed it down to two options: A) Ritz Carlton, MS 75k per year (using two redbirds, one mine and another a family member's) and get platinum status or, B) SPG, MS just whenever I get the chance.

Some thoughts: I travel roughly around 5x per year so the Ritz airline and hotel credit would come in handy and pay off the $395 AF assuming I use all of it. I can also get platinum status without physically staying at the hotels. The card, if I'm understanding correctly also works if you stay at Marriotts and other related properties so there's a lot to choose from.

On the other hand, with the SPG, I won't have to be so diligent with MS. Also, with my travel, it might be relatively easy to achieve status, but I'm going to have to dish out more money to get there as I have to physically stay at these places.

About my current situation:

  • I travel roughly about 5x per year. All pleasure, no business.
  • Primary airline is United right now (which is a pain if I decide to go SPG and get status because I would probably want to switch to Delta to get those crossover points).
  • Some cards I have right now: Ink Plus, United Explorer (hopefully I can put 25k spend per year on this too for the 10k miles), Freedom, and a bunch of other cashback cards.
  • Annual income is 120k+ so I shouldn't be drawing any red flags with the redbird spending.
  • Main bank is Chase and I have history with them. Checking and savings for about 5 years, Freedom since 2011, direct deposits and mortgage all with them.
