Megathread 3: Russia Invades Ukraine

So let me get this straight -- Russia's big fucking plan, which they clearly though they'd manage day 1 (hence taking the airport and losing 200+ well trained soldiers, not the conscripts they're losing with their army) was to take the capital, install a puppet government, have that government surrender and...

Then what? They think the Ukrainian military is just going to "Okay" and lay down arms? That the citizenry will?

Jesus, Putin's in a fucking bubble.

Does he not remember Afghanistan -- not America's turn in it, but the Soviet Union's?

Afghanistan didn't have a fully trained, well equipped army to go guerilla in the first place, and they certainly didn't have a shit-ton of neighbors well set up to keep losing literal tons of military hardware for said guerillas to find.

The Taliban fucked Russia over for a decade based entirely on a handful of trainers smuggled in, and small arms shipments from the US.
