Megathread: Additional accusations of sexual misconduct made against Brett Kavanaugh

I think you and I have different interpretations of what making a literal claim is, but let me see if I can provide a good analogy for you here.

Soldiers and civilians in a warzone both come under attack from enemy combatants. - Is it accurate to say that facing attack by enemy forces is "a day in the life of civilians in this area"? Yes. - Is it exclusionary to not include soldiers in the claim? Yes. - Does the claim entail that soldiers do not face attack? No. - Is it necessarily bad to exclude soldiers? No - soldiers and civilians have different expectations when it comes to being attacked by enemy combatants.

In the case of assault and rape, it is not hyperbole to say that women are disproportionately affected, and that their assaulters and rapists are disproportionately men. Women's expectation is to be assaulted and raped by men, but the same is not true of men, even though assault and rape definitely occur. In this sense, it is entirely reasonable for women to make a statement like the above, since it is the daily reality they live with, while for men it is not a daily reality.
