Megathread: Biden Forgiveness Announcement

Same- I am broke as I spearheaded an effort to payback 40k (originally a 30k loan) with a 30k job back in the day. I wanted cancellation for others because of what I went through.

Also in my state I had no choice but to go in debt because before the age of 23 you had to use your parents income. My dad made 40k from military retirement and that was enough for my not to qualify for anything. He lived in a low income apartment and was saddled in debt because of— life, himself. We grew up poor- it was frustrating seeing fellow students over 23 whose parents paid their tuition get grants and stuff.

This is just a band aid though. The predatory system needs to change. Colleges need to stop trying to expand expand expand and start thinking of their students and faculty.
