Megathread: Congress Can Seek President Trump’s Tax Returns, Appeals Court Rules

Isn't it sort of Trump who is being a pussy?

I'm not sure how I feel about a POTUS or occupier of high office having the same expectation of privacy and autonomy as a private citizen.

If Trump is hiding something, that has, literally, world-wide implications and consequences. It wouldn't be the first time in history that someone who seems perfectly legitimate and respectable, until their privacy is somehow compromised and it turns out they are a serial rapist or part of some criminal enterprise or some shit. As a private citizen, that's just part of the game, you are afforded your privacy by law barring extreme circumstances.

But for the POTUS, or someone in high office? Does it not seem like affording individuals who wield such authority and influence over literally every single citizen of the US, and arguably, the entire planet? That's a recipe for inevitable failure. Americans cannot vote to protect their own interests and that of the country if the politicians in high office afforded the same degree of privacy as a private citizen. It makes it so, so easy for someone to act in bad faith and obfuscate their intentions, intentions which are entirely opaque because of their right to privacy.
