Megathread: GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz Under Investigation for Alleged Sexual Relationship with 17-Year-Old Girl

I'm not defending Gaetz, but it is worth getting the terms correct. Pedophilia is prepubescent children, which 17 is not, and is an entirely different class of mental condition. Taking advantage of young post-pubescent women is gross and illegal, but it is not the same as being attracted to literal children younger than 13. The mental conditions that go with pedophilia are real and serious and should be treated appropriately because attraction to prepubescent children is unnatural while attraction to a 17 year old woman capable of child bearing is not unnatural. Taking advantage of a 17 year old and having sex outside the age of consent is illegal but it is not a mental disorder like pedophilia. The only reason I draw the distinction is because mental health is neglected, and people should understand the difference between sexual attraction to females of child bearing age and attraction to prepubescent children that would be classified as a mental disorder.
