I didn't intend to give him anyone credit. I think his plan was just a geopolitical manifestation of bullying. I could be wrong, but I feel it's pretty transparent that Iran does not want to start a full on war with the United States, and I think Trump decided it was a ripe opportunity to take advantage of the global landscape to get away with something inappropriate and dangerous, and I don't think there was much more to the plan than that. You could be right, and he did want to start a war, but I'd wager he and his ilk figured something along the lines of "even if we don't end up getting into a war, no one will do shit, fuck it, fuck what people think, let's just do it."
