Megathread: Joe Biden Wins South Carolina Democratic Presidential Primary

I'm not trying to troll, but what is Biden's appeal with black voters? I genuinely don't understand it. Granted I'm white so I obviously don't understand what it's like to be a minority, but he seems like someone black people would hate. I feel like some of the things he's said are the stereotypical "my black friend" (Corn Pop, plus bringing up Obama every chance he gets) and he doesn't seem to have a strong plan to solve the problems that they face. Even in South Carolina he didn't seem to say much else on the topic other than we need to help African Americans (which is something every candidate said) and touting his support from the black voting bloc.

I'm not saying he's racist or that he isn't trying to help minorities, but he seems more like a behind-the-times grandpa than an understanding ally. Is the South Carolina Democratic Party just fairly conservative?
