Megathread Monday! 2014-05-11 - There are no stupid questions - Any question at all! Q&A guilt free!

Hello! I just found this subreddit today. I'm not quite sure if this is where I should ask for advice, but I've been really indecisive about school and my future (as are many my age). For some quick background, I am 20/F and currently working as an administrator for my family's Industrial Electrical company. I don't mind the job, but I've always loved the idea of working in the film industry. In high school I was a Special High Skills Major in Communications and Technology (meaning I did photography for school events, AV set-up for assemblys, video editing for different assembly's, graphic design for event posters, and I came 4th in a graphic design competition in an Ontario Highschool Media competition). In 2013 I did one semester of Art Fundamentals because I had really wanted to become an animator, but realized I'm not as good at drawing as I thought I was (and I wasn't getting any better). So I left after the first semester and I've been working for my dad's company ever since. I didn't apply to school for this coming year either, so I have another year until I go back to school.

Now, I have a huge passion for the film industry. I know that finding jobs in the film industry are quite sparse these days and I just worry that I'll spend money on college film courses and then not be able to find the job that I want in the future. I think one of my issues is that I have only a couple specific companies I would want to work for, which limits me.

My dream would be to work as a video editor for Funhaus or Rooster Teeth, or other companies that make youtube videos (SourceFed, Machinima, Mondo ect..). I love the idea of becoming an editor for popular youtube or social media type channels (is there a better name for that division?). I realize these companies are at high demand. I will definitely do more research on different places I'd be interested to work for, but for now I just want to ask you guys if you had any advice on how to get myself to where I want to be. Do any of you guys have jobs for these types of companies? If so how did you get to where you are? Any tips? What can I do to make myself standout?

(If this is not the place for me to post this comment then please let me know where I should redirect my comment and I will delete it from this thread!!)
