Trump’s presidency has been a windfall of viewers and the profits that follow. His defeat must come as bittersweet to these companies as they seek to deal with a post-Trump world and the dramatic fall off in viewers that’s sure to follow.

They need a boogeyman. The events at the Capitol last week were teed up perfectly for the media. I expect a narrative of “right wing extremists pose a dire threat to America” going forward to attempt to keep the left riled up. Similar to the narrative we got from neocons after 9/11, “Islamic terrorists are in your backyard!” to build support for the War on Terror. Neither are/were true, but the intended target audience will fall for it.
