Mehdi Hassan on the limits of Free Speech.

Mehdi Hassan stated in a debate with Dawkins that he believes "he who must not be drawn" split the moon in two and flew to heaven on a winged horse because it says so in a 1400 year book. As far as I'm concerned anybody who seriously adheres to that concept removes themselves from the pool of competency when it comes to making a sensible judgement, and that's surely got to be litmus test for any discussion, unless we were visited by intelligent aliens who tried to warn us against planetary annihilation via environmental degradation, that to me is a rationalists point of view should one accept the gospel as... er... gospel. There is, and has always been within the text of the Abrahamic religions the demand that they be exempt from criticism from a rational intelligent mind. The only reasonable conclusion based on the application of intellect upon the evidence, based I concede on current knowledge, is that it's the product of a world view rather than a universal one, designed to band aid its limited knowledge base by using the plaster of belief. Without such a plaster, and with the application of 21st knowledge, any justifiable reason to believe other than explicable fears, indoctrination and physical response seems ridiculous. What they want is for the modern world to stop saying "no this is silly" because it offends them. I have occasionally offended Muslims in my community by challenging their views and there is a barely hidden contempt if one suggests that God isn't real. Well, we burned people and fought hammer and tongs for hundreds of years over this idea and it got us nowhere until we decided that reason made more sense. Admittedly, capitalism, and Smithian (Matrix) virus like consumption of biodiversity and resources has thrown a weighty spanner in the works but nobody is exempt from that bandwagon.
