I recently bought my first house with my wife and the only reason that was possible is because I was in the military and a VA housing loan requires no down payment.

My wife and I both work good paying jobs (I do IT and she did a trade school for electron microscopy) and our combined income is just under 150k (with lots of regular overtime) and we are still living on a month to month income due to the insane cost of renting and everything else.

We have some money to enjoy ourselves with on occasion, but without the VA loan it'd be another decade before we could afford the down payment of a "starter home"- and that's without kids in the mix. All these old and out of touch people in the comments just saying "work harder" have no clue what they're talking about.
