Maybe not a popular take, but I got out the military in 2012. Went to IRQ, dealt with PTSD during my time in and really bad after. Was told for a VERY long time to get help. Never believed I had enough criteria to file a VA claim. Pandemic hit. Went and filed in December and slowly crawled through the process due to COVID restrictions. Finally submitted almost 14 months later and was instantly met with a 100% Permanent and Total rating. I fucking quit my job the next day. Fuck retail work. I'll die before I ever go back. I still obviously deal with the PTSD on a daily basis, and it's rough sometimes, but I don't have to work a shitty job where nobody gives a fuck about me and treats me like shit. Oddly enough, I now drive very calmly lol. I take my time. It's a life changer. Can't even explain how good the feeling of not being mentally and physically drained to make ends meet (and still not being able to) actually is. Everything I do now days is a little slower, calmer, and relaxed.
