Melbourne protesters didn't stand a chance lol

The UK went the herd immunity thing initially to protect their economy. Result is by far the highest death toll in Europe and the biggest GDP hit to their economy of any OECD country. All governnents in Australia have been following the policy that going hard on covid is the best strategy. The prediction is that the short term economic hit is preferable to longterm carnage. They are also following medical advice. The sooner covid numbers cone down, the sooner the economy opens. SA,Qld and NSW are looking at easing restrictions on movement etc. WA is holding out because they are recording no covid cases and their economy is the only one not in recession. However, within WA there are very few restrictions and overwhelming support for the govt policy. Victoria's restrictions are not all about the state but the threat an outbreak spread to other states would pose to the economies of the country and other states.
