When men were "running" the world, divorce was rare and frowned upon in most places and most times. This of course had it's bad side. But it did ensure that you would get to raise your own children as your own if you wanted. This is a much bigger deal to most men than you seem to reliaze.

Witness what had happened since divorce has become widespread. As I said, clearly a want of women and not men.

But NO, I dont want to see someone who loathes me day in and day out, but likewise I don't want to think about someone who loathes me raising my children with someone I don't know day in and day out.
