I'm mid-30's now but I'd go on the site more than a decade ago during the Scientology and Gamestop trolling. At first I felt like the the "cool girl" and that I'd found the wellspring of internet humor. But the horrible stuff and disturbed people there were taking a psychological toll even though I felt the site was toughening me up. I just felt demoralized all the time and made really inappropriate jokes in mixed company until I quit. The place skewed my perception of reality. A guy from a meetup 12 years ago is still trying to find me, according to a mutual acquaintance*.

Reading recent news involving the site, I just keep wondering how on earth they're paying the massive bandwidth bills and why the servers haven't been all seized. I can't help but imagine conspiracy theories like perhaps some shadowy agency is fascinated by how random nerds are being turned into terrorists by memes.

*All the women I met through the site were really interesting/kind people, paradoxically. So bizarre.
