To the men out there who used to struggle with dressing better, what was your experience like? How has your fashion sense "evolved"? Share your journey!

I used to dress in literally whatever my sister or my parents would pick up for me. (My sister asks for my advice on her stuff now) Growing up in the 90's as a skinny kid, baggy fashion I didn't particularly like might have something to do with the that. I didn't appreciate what was in at the time hence my dismissal of fashion all together. I was carefree and laid back and I guess same attitude went towards fashion. Plus I was just typical teenage boy who was into video games than clothes. I can't comment on how people perceived me purely based on my outfit, but it can't have been good.

It was college when I really started to care. Mainly because I wanted to look good for the ladies (though nowadays I usually dress for myself). Eventually I was introduced to Dior Homme. I finally felt like I found the clothes for me. The rock and roll inspired skinny fitting clothes looked so damn cool. I've fallen in love with Slimane's design ever since. (And not knowing that he will one day return to YSL, the day he left DH was a sad day for me.)

I don't know how I would describe the process of learning fashion sense. I don't want to say that it was natural for me as it sounds like a douche thing to say, but I'd like to think that being an art school student, being surrounded by people who dress creatively and being in creative field itself helped. Plus, when you have a passion (or even just an interest) in something you like, you naturally tend to research into it. I looked a lot of catwalk photos and street fashion photos and straight up copied some of it. Eventually you start taking elements from inspirations instead of blindly copying the fit. Biggest hurdle was that a lot of things I wanted were highly expensive (which meant a lot of meal skipping to afford what I wanted) or highly unobtainable in a not so big city.

My current wardrobe consists of a lot of prep inspired clothes with modern sensibility as well as a lot of rock and roll inspired streetwear from my Dior Homme love days. I switch back and forth and my love for Slimane continues with SLP (though my age conscious mind makes me wear these streetwear much less than before). Recently I've been getting into conservative suits as well as interesting suits that break conventional view on traditional menswear. I am loving Thom Browne in that regards.

I honestly don't know what kind of impression I give off. I know that ever since my change people do complement on my outfits which never happened before. So I guess there is that but honestly I don't really care now that I dress for myself instead of trying to impress others.
