When I was in my 20s, I had a few roommates, all men. One of them and myself quite literally shared the same plate, bowl and pan for something like 5 years. We were on different schedules, so he would use the bowl for cereal in the morning, wash it off and put it back in the cupboard, then an hour or two later I would get up, use the bowl and put it back. Same thing with lunch or dinner, one of us would use the plate and pan, wash and put them back, and then the other would do the same a few hours later.
Third roommate however, was exactly like that guy's wife. If he so much as unwrapped a piece of chewing gum, there would be a pile of dishes in the sink and a mountain of trash that he had a habit of putting next to the can but never in the can, along with leaving the sponges in the sink so that they would stay wet and begin to smell, and splatter and crumbs all over the countertops and stove.
It's not a woman thing, it's a being a self-absorbed asshole that doesn't clean up after themselves thing (and likely a dash of how they were raised).
