Men of reddit, when did the saying “looks can be deceiving” really hit home?

Sweden's problems are overstated. They've had a large influx of immigrants into a society that is ethnically homogeneous and hasn't had America's experience with assimilation. Give it a couple generations and the immigrants will assimilate into Swedish culture naturally. I don't think Islam is necessarily incompatible with western culture considering that Muslims integrate rather well in America. I think the Swedes' initial reaction of responding with racism will make that process take a little longer than it would otherwise but it will still happen. Sweden did a good job of branding itself as less racist and more socially progressive than America but that was never actually true. Instead of focusing on fixing their sloppy integration policy they blame the immigrants' inherent nature. Instead of hiring enough police officers to police a larger population (they have half as many per capita as Germany) they suggest deportation and strict immigration controls as a solution. Instead of deregulating housing zoning policy to allow cheaper housing, they focus on rent controls, creating ghettos (admittedly America is also guilty of this stupidity). Rather than blaming their immigrants' race and religion as the sole source of their problems, I think the Swedes have to look inward and realize that the poor integration is mostly their own fault. Sweden is still greater than 85% white and yet they have more social problems with immigration than countries that are much more diverse than them.
