Men with little to no friends and no SO, how’s life?

Hey, have you thought about moving to a new area? Maybe a city you’ve never lived in before; somewhere just far enough away that you won’t be running into people that you may “know”. I know you said you’re saving for a place of your own, but you can definitely find CHEAP housing if you are flexible. Maybe a house or multi bedroom apt others are looking to sublet a room in for a couple months. I was certainly in a similiar position a couple months ago and I did exactly this.

30M recently single after a very long relationship. I have friends, but all in very different stages of life (married, new homeowners, having kids etc..) so I said fuck it, I’m lonely anyway and moved to a city I’ve never lived in before. Had the goal of meeting new people and to find myself again in this new chapter of my life.

Got a membership to the gym and local climbing gym. I checked out the hiking trails. Started hitting the bars and talked to pretty much anyone who seemed interested in having a conversation about anything. Introducing youself as the new guy in town always seems to be a good conversation topic if that’s something you struggle with. I’ve met some great people and a couple I feel very lucky to call new friends. One that has quickly become one of my favorite people on this earth.

The best part of moving to a new place where you don’t know anyone is you can be whoever you want to be. I don’t mean try to be someone you’re not, but if you’re in a position where you want change, this can be a great opportunity. There are no expectations from anyone. And if you crash and burn, make a fool of yourself and feel like you can’t live with the shame, you can pack it up and try again somewhere else just far enough away. Bonus points if you can find a month-to-month lease.

I’ve always found that pushing myself outside of my comfort zone as far and often as possible when I’m down and lonely has always helped me make new connections and find out more about myself.
