ok so they sent out an email to ppl on wednesdayish that applied saying that the final round would be invited on Friday but I don’t know if anyone got invited on friday because no one had heard anything. Also a cox on my team just got invited today so I’m assuming they’re still sending out invites? maybe that was the last round? not sure, don’t take my word as fact. as of that day of the email 84/120 slots had been filled so I’m assuming they’ve hit at least 100-110 filled slots, if not all. I’m a girl so I’m kinda assuming the invite situation for both men’s and women’s selection is kinda similar rn. I personally don’t think they’re done inviting people yet. But if you have gotten an invite to ODP or HP and not selection, it means they have looked at you and released you to be invited ODP coaches, so I don’t think they would considering you for selection anymore. Go ahead and think abt accepting or declining the ODP invite. (I mean “you” in general, not specifically you, if that makes sense)
Stats for women depend on birth year. I know a few people who were invited in the 7:20s, but they are younger athletes (co’23). Birth years 2003 or older were expected to be sub 7:20 or 7:10. A senior on my team was rejected because she wasn’t sub 7:20 (also was very small, but not sure if that was the main reason). For men I assume that it’s similar, sub 6:30 at the very highest for younger athletes, sub 6:20/6:10 for older athletes. I’ve been stalking the u19 system Instagram and found a kid in 2022 class who was invited with a 6:23. I think anyone has a chance because there are so many different circumstances. Race results help a lot too, but I think usrowing is understanding that those are limited.
HP is not the same as it was in previous years where they raced at club nats. The group racing at club nats is now called “selection development” and is essentially people from selection who are “age-eligible” but did not make it into a CanAmMex or Worlds boat. The new HP is now mixed with ODP, but not entirely. They’re just hosted in the same location. The best athletes who didn’t get into selection (24 men, 24 women) but still have at least another year of eligibility will most likely be invited to HP. They will be training with coaches to prepare themselves for 2022 selection, and if they are good enough, some might end the summer with a selection 2022 invite. It seems to me like this group will not be racing this summer, or if they do it will only be amongst themselves and not against the other ODP kids or kids from other programs.
